High blood pressure means the increase in blood pumping above its normal levels, which is 120 mm Hg for systolic pressure, and 80 mm Hg for diastolic pressure (120/80), to become (140/90) or more.
Most people who suffer from high blood pressure do not have symptoms of high blood pressure , as well as in cases where blood pressure is so high that it poses a risk.
In some patients, the following symptoms appear in the first stages of the disease:
1- Mild aches in the head.
2- Excessive dizziness or nosebleeds.
But these signs and symptoms usually appear when the disease has reached a more advanced stage, to the point where it is life-threatening.
1- Age, so the incidence increases with increasing age.
2 - heredity, as there is a greater susceptibility to infection with this disease if there are family members infected with it.
3- Weight, because excess weight is a burden on the heart to deliver nutrients to all parts of the body, so it needs blood to be pumped more forcefully, which leads to high pressure on the walls of blood vessels.
4- Lack of physical activity, since high blood pressure is a heart-related disease, so physical activity improves heart health and reduces the risk of developing it.
5- Smoking, because of its harm to the heart and health.
6- An imbalance in taking mineral salts, as little potassium salt or a lot of sodium salt, which is present in salt, leads to high blood pressure, so the proportion of table salt must be reduced in meals.
7- Exposure to high levels of stress, anxiety and tension.
8- Kidney disease, diabetes, or sudden sleep apnea.
1- Atherosclerosis.
2- Having heart attacks.
3- Kidney failure.
4- Blindness.
According to the last basic guidelines on blood pressure that were published in 2003, the measurement values fall into four general groups:
1- Normal level:
Blood pressure is considered normal when it is less than 80/120 mm Hg.
However, some doctors say a blood pressure of 115/75 mm Hg is best.
2- Pre-hypertension level:
When the systolic pressure is between 120 - 139 mm Hg, or when the diastolic pressure is between 80 - 89 mm Hg.
3- The first stage of high blood pressure:
When the systolic pressure is between 140 - 159 mm Hg, or when the diastolic pressure is between 90 - 99 mm Hg.
4- The second stage of high blood pressure:
When the systolic pressure is 160 mm Hg and more, or when the diastolic pressure is 100 mm Hg and more.
The two values (the highest and the lowest) in measuring blood pressure are important, but after the age of 50 years, systolic blood pressure (the lowest value) becomes the most important.
We recommend that you familiarize yourself with information on pressure medications, their uses, recommended dosages and reservations.
